Beijing’s Struggle Session and Arryam – four lovers from Seoul, South Korea – team up here for another of Genjing Records’ wild split albums. The fantastic artwork was done by Cha Cha at Needles & Pins Tattoo Studio in Beijing, and somewhat resembles the face of a toothy, feather adorned spider peeking through the wall.
This record is an exercise in very fast, high octane energy fit into bitesize portions of time. Arryam’s six songs together come to less than six minutes, less than a minute per song. There is absolutely no hanging about here, each song is straight to the point and both Arryam and Struggle Session forgo arbitrary forewords and introductions in lieu of in your face go-fuck-yourself-attitude.
And so the confusing 7′ inch label for the 10 song record is straightaway explained away. Struggle Session go one step further in playing around with the stop and start motion on Fuck You! This Is Hardcore! with more stopping and starting than a young fellas first driving lesson.
Which is, again, I have to say, extremely impressive. To maintain and to be able to summon this kind of intensity is amazing to me. You can feel the sweat being flung against the walls, the crowd throbbing and walls creaking. A genuine live atmosphere in these ten short songs.
